Whew! We’ve had a busy past few days! We’ve ordered most of the furniture we will need to fill our home. The only room seriously lacking in furniture is the living room. We are just really intimidated about buying living room furniture and we don’t want to spend a lot of money…so we might be looking for awhile. The dining room chairs arrived yesterday! The table will be coming on a truck sometime in the near future. It’s so exciting!

But, the major excitement for me is the island counter. We have been traveling to a local stone yard in Melbourne, Florida in hopes of getting a piece of a slab of marble for our kitchen island. Currently, the island is the only remnant of our old kitchen. The only proof that out kitchen had pink tile.

See how badly it sticks out?? So, Matt and I have been on a mission to change that. We originally wanted White Carrara Marble. After learning that this type of marble is currently in high demand and very pricey, we decided to broaden our scope. I really wanted marble. Marble is fantastic for rolling pastry and I think that it has the special look I was going for. We learned quickly that people will to their best to try to talk us out of marble. For the record, WE KNOW THAT MARBLE IS POROUS! Whew, had to get that out of my system. I think because we are young, we look ignorant. But, Matt and I are researchers and we knew exactly what we were getting if we got marble.

But, in the end, all that research was just thrown out the window. Stone is expensive. Especially for a small space. And we just couldn’t find a marble that we liked. So, we decided on this piece of granite.

It’s called Bianco Romano, as you can see:

It’s white with grey veining and little, dark red dots.  Plus, it’s the thickness we wanted, 3cm. They are supposed to deliver and install it early next week! Let’s just hope it looks good inside our house!

We have lots of other exciting house goods arriving this week, so stay tuned!
